USES OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FOR NIGERIAN WOMEN

Information technology has been of numerous help to Nigerian women,in the following ways:

CAREER:It is said that what a man can do a woman can do better,Information technology is a way of proving this fact,it has enabled Nigerian women,have a say in male dominated career's like been a network Engineer,infrastructure Engineer and other ICT related fields of study.Information technology has made Nigerian women like Florence Seriki of Omatek Computers have a say and be accorded respect the way other male information technologist are seen.We now have female movie director's,blogger's,etc

Home:In the home information technology has made Nigerian women better mothers in the sense that,IT empowered women are in better positions to relate with their IT informed children e.g children who have computer related assignments can easily ask their mothers for help as the mother is also IT informed,it has also served as a teaching aid which mothers of physically challenged children,use for educating their child ,e.g the braille and other computerized teaching aid's.

BUSINESS:Information Technology has aided women enterprenuer's advertise their product's and services through the 'media,video's social networking site's like Facebook,Hi5 e.t.c.Through the use of this networking site's female entrepreneur's,are able to relate with other women all over the globe and talk about their services and product's.Through the use of search engines and marketing site's Google,Wikipedia,Ebay,Amazon etc these entrepreneurs are also able to know about products,companies, and how they can be distributors,thereby expanding their networks and business capability.

ACTIVISM:Information Technology,has increased the way at which the voice of Nigerian women are heard both locally and all over the globe.It has brought a great awareness on injustice,and other cause's affecting the Nigerian women.IT,through the use of Video's,adverts,networking,campaigns using cliparts e.t.c has helped to a great extent in reducing act's, like rapes,unhealthy working conditions imposed on Nigerian women,child marriage in the Northern parts of Nigeria,and Prostitution through the use of videos enlightening women and young girls about STD's and reproductive health issues theredy reducing death rate of mother's,babes and young women.

MENTORSHIP:Through the achievement of older Nigerian women by using IT,younger generation of women are been encouraged to look upto these older one's as mentor's and guide's in both IT related fields and other fields of study.It has also given the older women the courage to serve as mentor's,and board adviser's to IT empowerment firm's like NGO's who train young women on Information technology program's eg the W.tec(Women in Technology in Africa)IT empowerment programs for young women.

I, look around and every one is talking about empowering the female gender, but I look at it from a different perspective, I believe every one whether male or female have principles or even act based on the experiences we’ve had as children and most especially as teenagers, which is what I want to share with us. I believe in empowering the female gender, but lets make this start with the female teenager, lets hear her out, see her point of view, tell her the true facts about life, advise her in a realistic and practically way, be a shoulder she can lean on, help her to form her principles and beliefs which will eventually make who she becomes, this reduces the energy and time we will spend on, empowering her as she already has sound principles, values and interest of her own.
